Current Skincare Shelfie

My name is Jem Louise and I'm a little (OK not so little) bit addicted to skincare. Hands up if you're with me on that one? I have so much skincare, suffice to say I don't need any more until I've got through the bulk. Due to having so much skincare, it means I'm super lucky because I get to stumble across some real gems; products that my skin loves and I'll now struggle to go a day without using. There have been so many products that have been working so well for me for the past six or so months that I thought I would share my current skincare shelfie with y'all. BUT please don't hold me accountable for your credit card jumping out of your purse (accidentally, obvs) ready for a giant skincare splurge...

Oh, isn't it fab when you discover a good cleanser? I have many favourite cleansers, three of which you'll find in the above photograph - the ones I am, in fact, currently using. For the morning, I tend to stick to Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash only (that is of course when I can be arsed to cleanse in the morning, some mornings my face is lucky to get a splash of water, yep truth) as it's one that I discovered a fair few months ago that just totes works in harmony with my skin. This is a gentle gel formula that lightly lathers (they say foam, I say lather as it's not like washing up liquid) on contact with water. My face feels refreshed and smooth after. I also use this as my second evening cleanse.

To take the bulk of my makeup off in the evening I usually opt for my holy grail oil cleanser, the DHC Cleansing Oil. This is my trusted cleanser that I return to time and time again. This beauty quite literally melts off my makeup (even stubborn eye makeup) faster than you can clean your face with a wipe. See, there really is no purpose for makeup wipes when you've got something like this. A fairly new addition to the stash that I have been trialing over the last couple of weeks is the virtually famous Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm and I've been LOVING it. This also melts my makeup off super quick and my face after? As soft as a baby's bum - and yes I have felt many so I know what I'm talking about. Wait... I have just realised that I probs just sounded like some weird freak and pervy baby snatcher. I promise I'm not. No, really.

If I worked as hard at toning my arse as much as my face, I'd actually have an arse by now. I choose one of two toning steps depending on the rest of my routine. If I am using an acid as a treatment post-toner, I will use a really simple toning product, something like a spritz of the Caudalie Beauty Elixer (or even simple micellar water), however, if I am having a night off from the acids, I'll go for an acidic toner. I usually opt for either the Alpha-H Liquid Gold or the Pixi Glow Tonic, the latter being the most used at the moment.

NO, not that kind of acid, obviously. If you know me well, you'll know I am slightly obsessed with skincare acids. If you don't know much about them, I wrote an article for work you can check out if you wish. I usually use some kind of acid every other day or every two days depending on how my skin feels and how much energy I have to put into my skincare regime after a long day (ya feel me?) I will also alternate in strengths. For example, one evening I'll use a glycolic or lactic acid like the Bravura Lactic Acid 10% and the next I'll give my face an injection of Hyaluronic Acid as well as a shot of Vitamin C, both of which are from The Ordinary. The Vitamin C really helps my skin to look less dull and tired - it's something I will always use now. This particular formula is a little gritty due to the stability of the ascorbic acid but I have to say, it sinks in really quickly.

Once a week I often treat my skin to a more intense acid treatment, usually on a Friday or Saturday evening. My absolute favourite is The Ordinary 's AHA 30% + BHA 2% 10-minute peel. This stuff is AMAZING. This rather scary red looking liquid makes my skin look instantly brighter and more refined come morning - I'm obsessed. The Salicylic Acid (BHA) in the formula also helps with any blemishes, and super fast too. It's brilliant and I rave about it to anyone who will listen. I also use this the night before anything imporant so my skin looks on top form. Another acid treatment I love is the Kiehl's Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, a similar product but slightly gentler. Kiehl's rarely step a foot wrong when it comes to skincare, so you know it's a product you can trust.

I also have a couple of different moisturising steps, again dependent on the other products I am using and how my skin is feeling. Generally speaking, the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense acts as my morning moisturiser most days. I actually need to get another one of these as I am running out and it's legit the best facial SPF I have ever used; so lightweight and nourishing. In the evening I more often than not use the Kiehl's Ultra Face Cream, another product that is also running low *weeps*. My skin loves this stuff; it's hydrating, lightweight, and absorbs effortlessly. This is my fail safe moisturiser as I know my skin won't throw a tantrum after use. If my skin is feeling on the drier side, I will opt for a facial oil. I don't like to do this often as my skin can be temperamental with face oils and some are just too rich. The Caudalie Vine Activ Overnight Detox Oil is my safest bet though; it's a lovely skin treat that provides a super soft and detoxed complexion upon awakening. This post isn't sponsored by Kiehl's btw, I just really love the brand.

DON'T FORGET THE EYES (they're the window to your soul)

If there's one thing I'm guilty of often forgetting, it's eye cream. When I'm on it (as in on top of my skincare routine, not pissed) these are the two I go for; the Clinique Pep Start for the morning due to its super awakening properties, and Caudalie Vine Activ in the evening for a more hydrating eye treatment.

And guys, that's not even half of the skincare I own, but I'm trying to be sensible and not overload my face too much. I like to rotate my skincare according to the seasons so the Winter shelfie may look a little different...we shall see! What are your holy grail skincare products? Let me know...
