January Favourites: make-up, skincare & hair

January beauty, hair and skincare favourites 001: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Foundation - I won't go on in too much detail about this one as I have already reviewed it on the blog (click here!) but I found myself reaching for this a lot during January, especially because it's full coverage, yet light weight and lasts all day without looking cakey. Tarte is a brand I really want to try more of this year as I only have one of their blushes, foundation and a couple of lipsticks. The Gifted mascara is next on my list.

002: Simple Cleansing Toner* - Seriously, where has this been all my life? I am so glad Simple has made a come back with a recharged line of products. Skincare has never been so simple, pardon the pun. This cleansing toner is of gel formula and is particularly cooling and hydrating. I use this after cleansing to really soothe my skin and rid any left over impurities. I've also found it works as a good make-up remover when wearing light make-up, almost similar to the benefits of using a micellar water, which the brand has also just launch their version of.

003: Caudalie Beauty Elixir - I'm still not totally aware of this product's benefits, or why I use it, other than saying it makes my skin feel so refreshed. I guess i've been using it as I would a toner, but also for refreshing my make-up throughout the day. It just makes my skin happy, so it's totally justified, even if it's a glorified toning water.

004: Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold - Holy moly, how I love thee. Cream eyeshadows have become my saviour in terms of quick make-up application. A quick sweep of the lid and I am ready to go. This is a beautiful dusky pink with gold flecks running through, and it lasts all day. I love to use this as a base with powder eyeshadows as well as on its own. I am totally obsessed.

005: Makeup Revolution Naked Chocolate Palette* - Ok, so I may not be a total fan of the plastic packaging, it all seems a bit garish to me, however I have been LOVING using this palette for all my neutral, natural shadow needs. Perfect for a Monday morning 'just got out of bed but had time to do my make-up' look. I am also really impressed with the longevity and pigmentation of both the shimmer and matte shadows. Totes a bargain, too!

006: BD Trade Secrets Looooonglaaaaash Lengthening Mascara* - This. Just this. I am not really a mascara fiend, at all. I have quite short, stumpy lashes which are prone to falling out, so finding a mascara that makes my lashes long and fluttery has long been a conquest I've yet to succeed in. I get recommended so many mascaras but they don't look the same on me as they do others. This BD Trade Secrets mascara is lengthening and provides a subtle curl, ideal for those days when you want a natural lash look. I do, however like to add a volumising mascara over the top to get the double whammy. This is actually a really dark brown shade, which I am also not used to. I remember my Mum trying to get me to wear brown as a teenager as she found black too harsh for my eyes (being so pale and all), and now I totes get her. Not that I will ever stray from black mascara, but I am open to the prospect of alternating between both shades. I am also road testing the Benefit Rollerlash which I've taken quite a fancy too as well. You can pick this mascara up online or in larger Tesco stores at a complete bargain price of £5.99. I am definitely getting another when I do my grocery shop (another added benefit, we all need food and mascara!)

007: The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil - I must admit, when I first started using this, I really disliked it. I thought it was the product in my routine that was drying my skin out, and considering my skin is already pretty dry, I wasn't left best impressed. However, I persevered and my dry skin eventually started to improve, so it couldn't have been the oil. I decided to try this out due to not being able to afford my favourite DHC Cleansing Oil at the time, and for a cheaper alternative, it is pretty good. DHC is still my holy grail in terms of cleansing oil, but this is great at removing make-up quickly and disintegrating the most stubborn mascaras. It's super nourishing and doesn't irritate my skin. I think I may have to go back at try the Camomile Cleansing Balm now.

008: Tangle Teezer Blow Dry Brush* - I am not one to usually blow dry my hair -albeit the fringe- but since getting this little beauty, I've been loving drying my hair... OK, I wouldn't go as far as to say I love blow drying my hair, as I find it a bit of a chore, but this has certainly made the whole thing far more manageable. Designed as a paddle brush, the individual teeth formation allows for free flow tension, whereby hair will pass through in a snake like motion, removing excess water from the surface layer ready for blow drying - it makes blow drying SO much faster. The only thing I find annoying is that it doesn't actually grip my fringe as well as I thought it would due to the size and the thinness of my hair: I am thinking they should do a mini version for fringes.
