An encounter with Meryl Streep

Just going to say it now, yesterday, 4 days into 2012, I met my favourite actress of all time, MERYL FREAKING STREEP. I luckily got hold of some tickets to attend the premiere (at the BFI Southbank), and I got to walk the blue carpet (sticking with the conservative theme) with Meryl herself, a few footsteps behind. I caught up with her before she was interviewed and gave her something, in which she replied 'thank you', in the cutest American accent I think I have ever heard. I literally couldn't walk and so many people were trying to usher me in. I did get a rather good look at what she was wearing though, her shoes (Michael Kors) and accessories were utterly fab!

For 62, I consider her a very underrated style icon for the older woman, her figure is also astonishing. If I look like this at her age, I will be very happy; she has definitely aged gracefully. Wearing a sleek black Stella McCartney dress underneath a navy blue cape coat she was most certainly going to attract attention. However, very much like her ensemble at the New York premiere of the film, slightly see-through, advertising some very nice bras, first leopard print and now black ( but hey who's complaining?) This sophisticated look was accessorized perfectly with a gold statement necklace and matching cuff.

I can't really write this with out mentioning the film. Streep a self-confessed liberal said: ''I admire many of her qualities, I don't agree with many of her policies [but] to me the only interesting thing is to look at Margaret Thatcher as if she were a human being, which after all she is," (The Telegraph)

I think I would have to agree with her on this one. I don't think the film reflected Thatcher in a particularly good or bad light. For me, un-educated in the field of politics and especially the Thatcher years, it taught me a hell of a lot. Many didn't agree with what she did and it's fair to say she went about things in the wrong way, but I take my hat off to her for the pure achievement of being the first female priminister. She had to be bolshy, she stood up for what she believed in, in a time of mostly male dominance; and what I liked about the film was that it was looking back. It was her as an old lady looking back on her choices and times as leader, and I think she realised her mistakes. It was actually quite sad at some points to see a human being go through some of the things she did in later life. Also it is quite a strong love story between Margaret and Dennis, which was portrayed by both actors beautifully. If this doesn't get Meryl her third Oscar win, I don't know what will, her performance was amazing.

  2. Blimey - is that you with Meryl?! Did you kiss her? I'm so jealous. I adore Meryl Streep, she is a very fine actress and an excellent style icon. She's intelligent and smart and still going strong at 62. I have no time for Thatcher though. On a human level, I'm sorry she has dementia but on a political level, she was evil.
